Oxfordshire County Council

What was the challenge?

Oxfordshire County Council needed a secure and efficient way to distribute the Household Support Fund to more than 4,000 residents. Verifying beneficiaries bank details manually was time-consuming, created administrative burdens, and required residents to provide additional proof of bank account details, which could delay payments.

What was the solution?

The Council implemented the PayPoint Confirmation of Payee (CoP) service within its online application form. This allowed immediate verification of residents’ bank account details, eliminating the need for extra documentation and manual processing.

The results

By using the CoP service:

  • Payments were processed more efficiently, reducing administrative workload.
  • Residents experienced a faster and more user-friendly process, resulting in being able to access their support funds quicker.
  • The need for additional proof of bank account ownership was removed, streamlining the fund distribution.
  • CoP also ensured that bank details were correct before payments were made, reducing the risk for errors, misdirected funds as well as protecting against fraud.
