For the customers receiving a PayIn payment, they can deposit it into their verified bank account and access the funds in minutes.
The process begins when the customer scans a QR code printed on a letter - or via a link sent by email or SMS - and follows an intuitive journey using their bank’s online portal or banking app.
PayPoint’s Confirmation of Payee service ensures the payment reaches the correct recipient - perfect for those wary of revealing their bank account details to organisations. By not needing to collect and process customer bank account information, PayIn reduces or eliminates data risks as it limits the data held by the payer.
In October 2025, PayPoint won an Open Banking Expo award in the "Best Sector Initiative" category after integrating our PayIn solution for a major utility client.
In response to the government's AFP scheme, the award-winning partnership was launched in 2023 and actioned as a replacement to cheques in 2025. It has now been used to issue over £1 million of utility refunds. 88% of all refunds have been delivered directly to customers' bank accounts using Open Banking, with transactions taking place immediately. The fastest transaction took place just 37 seconds after issue.
Through the collaboration customers can also collect cash at over 30,000 PayPoint outlets nationwide. PayPoint’s PayIn service remains the only UK solution to blend Open Banking with in-store cash redemption, ensuring inclusivity that supports both digital and cash-preferred users.
